The main screen is divided in three different panels: the searching section, the results window and the catalog card. On a desktop computer the side panels can be alternatively closed to gain more room for the results window. A tooltip appearing on every button icon can help to understand its function. At the moment both these features are not available on mobile devices.
Once you have inserted all of your searching criteria the search will start only after clicking on the "play" button. You can manage many different criteria: beside free text searching, combined searching by keywords, author, title, place, publisher, journal is also available. It is possible to limit the search within a temporal interval (starting from 1972). Last you can choose a specific subject among those that are listed at the bottom of the section.
Searching results are displayed into the central panel. If the total number of found items exceeds 500 you have to switch to the next page to see the next ones. it is possible to order results by author or by date. Results can be exported (500 at time) as PDF or as Microsoft Word file (.docx). Clicking on a single result opens in the right sector its bibliographic card showing all the news related to it: subjects, keywords, location, any undresses, references and reviews.
For the search to start, you need to click on the PLAY button in the upper left. Only then is the research formulation considered completed and the system begins to search. The button must be clicked even after any subsequent changes. Only pressing "enter" ("return") is not enough.
To avoid both abuse and delays in operation, only 500 results are displayed at a time. In order to export searches with a larger number of results, all results pages must be printed one after the other.
The two Socities use bibliographic formatting systems with different readings for which both versions have been made available.
External links are provided only as a useful track to expand the research outside of the International Dante Bibliography which is not always in a position to monitor any changes in layout or archiving on the destination sites. Therefore when you reach a journal home page most of the times you have to search that specific article within the archive by yourself
No, it is not possible. One way to keep track of the criteria used for a given search is to export the results. The date and the search criteria are summarized in the header of the exported document. It is also useful to remember that through the use of cookies, if you reopen the same browser with which a search has been carried out, this "remembers" the last formulation of the set criteria and re-proposes it in the initial screen.
